WICKEN NOTES AND DIARY FOR APRIL 2018

St Margarets Church and Community Centre – Please check centre pages for details of church services during April especially the special services and Easter celebrations.  Please ring Margaret Davis on 550703, Anna on 540610 or Richard on 541522 if you want more information or to ask any questions.
Annual Public Church Meeting will take place at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 11 April and will include club and group reports as well as detailed financial reports.  All welcome.  There will be wine and nibbles.

Parish Meeting with Kemi Badenoch MP - Sorry this meeting had to be cancelled because Kemi had a family funeral abroad.  Notice will be given as soon as a new date is agreed.
100 Club –  March winners were Nathaniel Morgan and Frances Murray.  Warmest congratulations to both of them.  As already announced, the new cycle begins in early Spring.  Anna has written asking about renewals and new memberships at £12 a year.  Please ring her on 540610 if you are a new ‘joiner’ to be sure you’re not missed!

Quiz – fewer quizzers this time because of the inclement weather but a warm welcome, delicious moussaka and chicken lasagne followed by apple strudel and custard made for a great evening, lots of fun and £298 raised for village funds.  The winning team in a close contest was ‘SnoGood’.  Many thanks as ever to our excellent quizmaster, to all who helped plan, set up, cook and clear up – and of course to all who supported the event.

YOGA is now offered from 6.15 pm – 7.15 pm on Monday evenings at the Community Centre.  There’s also the possibility of an additional afternoon session earlier on Mondays, and one-off extended week-end session – details to be confirmed when arrangements have been finalised.  If you’re interested, please email Sam Meyrick on samanthameyrick@yahoo.com.

Garden Club - Viv McLennan writes ‘Sadly the church garden tidy had to be cancelled because of the snow and a new date will be arranged and notified.  All helpers most welcome. The visit by coach to Great Dixter is now confirmed for Thursday 17 May.  This is a great garden designed by the late Christopher Lloyd and we are lucky enough to have a guided tour of his beautiful house as part of the tour.  The coach (with loo!!) will start at Wicken Bonhunt at 8.00 am and return at 6.00 pm – cost £35 inc house tour. Please contact Frances on 541341 or Viv on 512121 for more information’.

Art Group – Jill Turner writes ‘Sadly, tutor Ken Mark, remains ‘hors de combat’ for the next few weeks, and the group misses him and his helpful advice and looks forward to his return soon.  The group continues to meet in the Community Centre at 10.30 am on Wednesday mornings.  As reported last month, the group is exhibiting at the Clavering Art Show this Easter for the first time.  We hope to have an interesting display of our work with some paintings for sale.  We shall be holding a workshop from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm on Wednesday 16 May with artist Glynis Barnes-Mellish showing us how to paint animal portraits with water colour’.  If you would like to join to group, please phone Viv on 541121 for more information and to add your name to the waiting list.

Wicken Ladies – Jenny Burgess writes ‘March meeting and talk on fitness and diet will be reported next month. Other dates for the year so far are 13 June for the Annual Wicken Bake-Off at Wicken House, and meetings on 20 September and 6 December. Other get-togethers and outings for smaller groups will be arranged and publicised throughout the year.   As always, everyone is welcome to any of our events’.  For more info about any of these events or activities, or if you want to be included in the mailings, please email Jenny on jennyburgess926@btinternet.com or Tanya on tanyapatience@gmail.com.

Carpet bowls – 7.30 pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays in the month – so 10 and 24 April.  We’re still looking for new members with or without experience. We’re a friendly group with a warm welcome.  Come along and try it! (contact Joan Morgan on 542558).

Breakfast Club – The April meeting will be at the Wicken Centre from 10.00 am on Saturday 7 April.  Come along and enjoy coffee and Danish – and catch up on local news and gossip. Edward Oliver, our District Councillor, is normally there as well.

Book Club – next meeting – 7.30 pm on Thursday 26 April - book and venue to be confirmed. For more information, please email Marion Tyrell at mt1@btinternet.com.

The Handbells (Belle-plates) Group – weekly rehearsals at 7.30 pm on Mondays.  We’d love more members.  No experience necessary – and it’s fun! Come along to have a go! Bring a friend!! If you’re interested, please ring Joan Morgan on 542558 or Richard Taylor on 541522.
