St Margarets Church and Community Centre – Please check centre pages for details of church services during November. Please ring Margaret Davis on 550703, Anna on 540610 or Richard on 541522 if you want more information or to ask any questions. Don’t forget – the Wicken Centre is available for hire for events and family parties at very reasonable rates. Also Centre equipment can be hired – chairs, tables etc – and we have just been given a large leaf blower/collector which can also be hired for that autumn chore. Please ring Richard on 541522 if you are interested.
Neighbourhood Watch – Joan Morgan, Parish Chair, is still hoping for a response to her request in last month’s Parish News for someone to become Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator. The role is not too onerous but it is important and we have been warned that the scheme cannot continue without a co-ordinator. If you think you can help and would like to discuss it, please ring Joan on 542558.
Village Quiz – the next quiz will be at 7.30 pm on Friday 10 November. Please come along and pit your knowledge and wits against our favourite question-master Mike Smith. Hot food provided. Please bring your own drinks and nibbles. Tickets £7.50. Please phone Anna Arend on 540610 to book your table.
Christmas Bazaar (‘Rosie’s do’) - this will follow the same format as last year – held at 6.00 pm on Friday 1 November and continuing the following morning at Breakfast Club. There will be gift stalls (inc a children’s stall), tombola, and raffle, wine, and nibbles. Children welcome.
St Margaret’s Talk Series – following the very successful talk on Medecins Sans Frontieres by Dr Monica Arend Trujillo earlier in the year, Linda Robinson MBE will talk about her experiences with orphan children in Romania and displaced refugees in the Calais ‘jungle’ at 7.30 pm on Saturday 25 November in the Wicken Centre. All welcome. There will be refreshments. No charge, but there will be a retiring collection.‘Dig for Wicken’ – Debbie Lowe attended the regular breakfast meeting at the beginning of October to show the items discovered during the ‘dig’ at Church House earlier in the year. She also brought a number of display panels showing a wide range of features of village history including its pre-Saxon, Saxon, Roman, Norman and later history, the church, Wicken House, Brick House, and some panels showing the lives of some of our earlier residents. The panels remained available for those attending the Harvest Supper the next day and there was considerable interest.
100 Club – September and October winners were Georgia Dudley, the Hurst family, Clare Smith and Roger Turner. Congratulations to them all.

Wicken Ladies – Jenny Burgess writes ‘The ‘have a go at pottery’ evening in September was a fun event and the results are now being ‘fired’ and may be displayed at a future event! The visits to Mandy’s Heaven took place after the news deadline and will be reported in the next issue. Thursday 9 November is another film night at Wicken House – details yet to be decided - and details of the get-together in the Community Centre on 7 December are still being planned. Other activities on offer have included assisting with clearing footpaths, planting bulbs, and pressing apples for apple juice. Busy, busy!!! As always, everyone is welcome to any of our events’.
