Parish Meeting with Kemi Badenoch MP – this now looks like being in the autumn.  Date to be notified when confirmed.
Safari Supper – this popular annual event will take place from 7.00 pm on Saturday 23 June.  If you’ve not tried it yet, come along.  A 4-course supper (pre-prandial drinks and nibbles, starter course, main and choice of sweets in different homes within the village (all close to the Community Centre) all for £12.50 per person (bring your own drinks and glasses).  Please ring Anna on 540610 to book your place.  Early booking helps the catering!!
Social Action Network – a small group met to discuss social issues and concerns and to consider how things might be improved.  Some of the issues discussed included local issues like the need for affordable housing, better public transport, more accessible play amenities and loneliness and isolation, and national and global issues like the growing gap between rich and poor people and conflict resolution.  Another meeting is planned in the Community Centre at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 29 May.  All welcome.  There will be refreshments.
Breakfast Club – 10.00 am – 12.00 noon Saturday 2 June.  Come along and enjoy coffee and Danish – and catch up on local news and gossip. Edward Oliver, our District Councillor, is normally there as well.
100 Club –  May winners were Carol Collins and Kate Yates.  Warmest congratulations to both of them.  There are still places in the new cycle.  Please ring Anna 540610 to be sure you’re not missed!

YOGA - now a regular feature in the weekly calendar from 6.15 pm – 7.15 pm on Monday evenings at the Community Centre.  For more information, please email Sam Meyrick on samanthameyrick@yahoo.com.
Garden Club - Viv McLennan writes ‘3 cars full of Garden Club members visited Hopley’s garden and nursery on a glorious April day.  Their plants are unusual as befits an exhibitor at Chelsea flower show and many are for sale.  A delicious afternoon tea in the garden rounded off a lovely afternoon.  Our June trip is to Thundridge Hill House near Ware on 14 June.  Please let Viv know on 01799 541121 if you’ld like to join the visit. Please contact Frances on 541341 or Viv on 512121 for more information’.
Art Group – Jill Turner writes ‘The group continues to meet in the Community Centre at 10.30 am on Wednesday mornings.  The meeting on water colour animal portraits on Wednesday 16 May led by artist Glynis Barnes-Mellish will be reported in the next issue. The last tutored session for the summer will be on 6 June but as normal the group will continue to meet informally each Wednesday.’  If you would like to join the group, please phone Viv on 541121or Jill on 543680 for more information and to add your name to the waiting list.
Wicken Ladies – Jenny Burgess writes ‘Plans for all the events mentioned in last month’s issue are now in hand.  At the time of writing, about 35 ladies, partners, families, friends and dogs had indicated they plan to join in the Wicken 5k on Sunday 20 May – report in next issue.  The now annual Wicken Bake Off will be the next challenge on Wednesday 13 June.  Great fun for the spectators as well as the contestants if last year is anything to go by.  You don’t have to be Mary Berry to join in!  A simple Victoria sponge without a soggy bottom may well see you take home the coveted trophy!  Anyone is more than welcome at this or any of our other get togethers.  For full details or to join our mailing list and to receive all our updates, please email Jenny on jennyburgess926@btinternet.com or Tanya on tanyapatience@gmail.com.
Carpet bowls – 7.30 pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays in the month – so 12 and 26 June.  It would be great to have some new members - with or without experience. We’re a friendly group with a warm welcome.  Come along and try it! (contact Joan Morgan on 542558).
Book Club – next meeting – 7.30 pm on Thursday 28 June - book and venue to be confirmed. A relaxed, informal and fun group which has been meeting for over 5 years and has read and reviewed a wide range of styles and genres.  More information from Marion Tyrell at mt1@btinternet.com.
The Handbells (Belle-plates) Group – weekly rehearsals at 7.30 pm on Mondays.  We’d love more members.  No experience necessary – and it’s fun! Come along to have a go! Bring a friend!! If you’re interested, please ring Joan Morgan on 542558 or Richard Taylor on 541522.
